Pat, did you notice yesterday the ACLU, and all the Christ-haters, People For the American Way, NOW, etc. were totally disregarded by the Democrats and the Republicans in both houses of Congress as they went out on the steps and called out on to God in prayer and sang "God Bless America" and said "let the ACLU be hanged"? In other words, when the nation is on its knees, the only normal and natural and spiritual thing to do is what we ought to be doing all the time -- calling upon God.

alas but silenced too late. the impact of the moral majority already has been stamped into america like a chisel into granite. but you're right about the fan club; the problem isn't the blowhards themselves, the falwells and the limbaughs and the hannitys and the rest of their ubiquitous morality guard... it is the people who actually buy in to what they're saying. i just drove through the bible belt recently, and while it was a beautiful drive, it also cemented my belief that a despairing percentage of the earth's population is only a few degrees shy of sheer idiocy, and a greater portion of the remainder are well over the line. great post, witqueen.
